Medan: Prosecutors say they have opened a probe of irregularities surrounding the sale of land from a forest preserve near Lake Toba used for the Asahan III power plant
strong>Medan: Prosecutors say they have opened a probe of irregularities surrounding the sale of land from a forest preserve near Lake Toba used for the Asahan III power plant.
A team of investigators will compile evidence and interview witnesses on the Rp 15.3 billion (US$1.6 million) procurement, North Sumatra prosecutors’ office spokesman Marcos Simare-Mare said.
Marcos said that prosecutors wanted to determine how land from a protected forest was sold.
“We’re still studying the case seriously. All parties involved in the procurement will be questioned, including officials of Toba Samosir regency who were involved in the sale of the land to state electricity company PT PLN,” he said.
Asahan III project manager Robert Aprianto Purba declined to discuss the irregularities, saying he would soon be transferred to PLN’s network section for Aceh, North Sumatra and Riau.
“Let the new official explain it. I’m afraid my statements might spark controversy,” Purba added.
