Text your say: Insulting film

A- A A+

Your comments on a statement made by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono calling on Muslims to exercise restraint over a film made in the US entitled Innocence of Muslims, which provoked Muslims in Libya to attack the US consulate in Benghazhi:

My first insight after reading the article is that SBY was unfair for just condemning the filmmaker and urging Muslims to stay calm.

What he should have done was make a protest speech against the US government for not taking any action regarding this serious insult.

Recent public anger and large public demonstrations at US consulates around the world clearly shows that the US is losing ground in friendly countries.

After Libya, things are also going from bad to worse in Egypt and Tunisia. In several countries, law enforcement agencies are finding it hard to keep angry mobs away from US consulates.

Sentiments are already high in the Muslim world against the US after the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Several incidents that have taken place in recent years have further reduced US credibility in Muslim world.

Exercising restraint shows that we are civilized people.

I think that in the case of Fitna a couple of years ago, most protesters don’t even know what they are protesting about.

They have not seen the movie and are just joining the crowd.

The US Government should ban the film and punish the filmmakers.

Just to set the story correctly. I would like to state that first, I live in California, US. The man that made this “film” is only trying to cause trouble across the world.

He does not represent the other 99 percent of the American people. We have bad people here just as all nations have. I pray that Muslim people understand we are not all like this terrible man. I am not Muslim, but I respect your beliefs.

People in western countries and their governments must know what lines not to cross when they exercise their freedom of expression.

Insulting our beloved Prophet, peace be upon Him, is off limits in freedom of expression, whether it be in the form of art, film, theater or comedy.

How about if the US arrested the filmmaker and his crew and sent them to Saudi Arabia or Egypt to face trial for insulting our Prophet, peace be upon Him.
