One student died and another was injured in a brawl between students of the school of civil engineering at the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) on their campus here on Thursday.
Ibrahim was stabbed in the abdomen and died on the way to nearby Ibnu Sina General Hospital while Idris sustained head injuries and was admitted into the intensive card unit at the same hospital.
Students not involved in the brawl said the incident started when the two victims were reprimanded by a senior high school student for wearing senior high school uniforms. Dozens of other students then got involved.
Achmad Gani, an assistant to the university’s rector, said the incident exploded rapidly and campus security guards could do nothing because the brawl ended within minutes of the two students being stabbed.
Following the incident, several police personnel stood guard at the school in anticipation of further trouble.
