SOUTH TANGERANG: The municipal administration has started to renovate and repair school buildings.
“Twenty percent of the existing 208 elementary schools are in bad need of repair. We will begin renovations soon,” Yahya Sutaemi, head of the basic education department at the South Tangerang Education Agency, said on Wednesday.
He said the administration planned to complete all the repairs to educational infrastructure and facilities by 2014 so that teachers and students could enjoy a comfortable teaching and learning process starting that year.
According to Yahya, the administration has allocated Rp 59 billion from the regional budget to renovate 19 elementary schools, five junior high schools (SMP), three vocational schools (SMK), six high schools (SMA).
“Another Rp 7 billion has also been allocated for minor renovation work at 36 elementary schools,” he said, adding that the administration had received Rp 10 billion in block funds from the central government to help finance the renovation projects.
