State-owned commuter train operator PT KAI Commuter Jabodetabek (PT KCJ) will launch a KRL Commuter Line train for women on Oct. 1, the company has announced.
The program was an extension of the women-only coaches program, which was launched in August 2010.
“The high demand for a women-only commuter train has encouraged PT KCJ to launch one. There will be an 8-carriage train that will operate a Jakarta–Bogor route as a start,” company chief spokeswoman Eva Chairunnisa told The Jakarta Post Digital on Friday.
The train will operate outside the existing train schedule. “We will increase the trips to 539 from a previous level of 531 trips per day,” she said, adding that there would be no price differences with the regular train.
The company will consider launching a similar train on different routes should demand increase.
