The Jakarta Police have called on commuters to avoid main roads throughout the city and to find alternative routes on Wednesday due to massive strikes by labor unions.
Workers would march from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle to the Presidential Palace circle from around 10 a.m. to 12.a.m. They plan to move on to the Health Ministry on Jl. Rasuna Said at 1 p.m. and continue to the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry Office on Jl.Gatot Subroto. The strike will end around 6 p.m.

About 5,000 workers from the capital, 5,000 from Tangerang, 3,000 from Depok and 10,000 from Bekasi are expected to stage rallies to demand an increase in the minimum wage and the elimination of the outsourcing employment systems.
The strike is part of action by 2.8 million workers on 80 industrial estates nationwide.
The police said that if the number of protesters escalated around the Presidential Palace, HI traffic circle and the House building, there would be detours. Here are some alternative routes.
