After being postponed twice, the inauguration of Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama as Jakarta's new leaders is slated to be held next Monday.

The Home Ministry’s director general of regional autonomy, Djohermansyah Djohan, said the ministry and the Jakarta City Council had agreed on the date.

He confirmed that the ministry had received all the documentation regarding the results of the gubernatorial runoff election and had also sent a proposal letter of Jokowi’s appointment as the new governor to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Outgoing governor Fauzi Bowo’s term ended on Sunday and the Jakarta administration secretary, Fadjar Panjaitan, was appointed as acting governor until Jokowi's inauguration, said Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi.

Jokowi and Basuki were supposed to be sworn in on Oct. 7. The inauguration was delayed, however, due to incomplete administrative paperwork.

The ceremony was later proposed to be conducted on Oct. 11, but was then cancelled because Gamawan had to attend an event in Batam, Riau Islands, kompas.com reported. (han/iwa)
