High school and university graduates under 30-years-old comprise the majority of those unemployed in Yogyakarta, an official says.
Yogyakarta's Manpower and Transmigration Agency head, Budi Antono, said Tuesday that 70 percent of 127,000 jobless in the province were younger than 29.
Among the 70 percent, 11,338 people graduated from university, 19,491 graduated from high school and 22,547 graduated from vocational school, Budi said on the sidelines of a job fair opening.
This year, the unemployment rate in Yogyakarta has reached 3.97 percent.
The agency’s division head for development and labor market placement, Dwi Santoso, said that many job seekers were reluctant to be placed out of town.
“Sometimes, they are qualified for a job but refuse to take it. They don’t want to move elsewhere,” he said.
