Low-cost carrier AirAsia Indonesia launched its new route, Kuala lumpur–Lombok, on Friday.
The company has scheduled three flights in a week; on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Malaysia AirAsia CEO Aireen Omar said that around 9,000 tickets for the Kuala Lumpur-Lombok route had been booked since the company opened up ticket sales two months ago. Tourists from Korea, China, Japan and Thailand also showed their interest in using the route, Aireen added.
West Nusa Tenggara Deputy Governor Badrul Munir said that the direct flights from foreign destinations to Lombok could significantly boost tourism on the island.
Apart from AirAsia, Singapore-based Silk Air also operates direct flights from Singapore to Lombok. (cor/lfr)
