ndonesia’s men’s doubles shuttlers Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Markis Kido have knocked out their Malaysian rivals, Gan Teik Chai and Ong Soon Hock, at the Dutch Open badminton tournament to claim a title.

In the final match on Sunday evening local time (early Monday in Jakarta), the senior shuttlers finished the game in a 50-minute 18-21, 21-13, 21-14 victory, according to www.tournamentsoftware.com.

Markis, 28, and Alvent, 32, were the only Indonesian shuttlers to have reached a final round at the US$50,000 badminton tournament, with other Indonesian players leaving earlier in different rounds.

Markis, who was also paired with his younger sister Pia Zebadiah Bernadet, had to stop at the mixed doubles’ semifinals.

Other Indonesian shuttlers partaking in the tournament were Andre Kurniawan Tedjono (finishing in the men’s singles quarterfinals); Pia-Rizki Amelia Pradipta (finishing in the women’s doubles quarterfinals); Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki-Hendra Aprida Gunawan (finishing in the men’s doubles quarterfinals) and Alvent-Rizki Amelia Pradipta (finishing in the mixed doubles first round).

Host Netherlands managed to snatch two titles in the all-Dutch finals in the men’s singles and women’s doubles.

Men’s singles seventh-seed shuttler Eric Pang defeated his compatriot Dicky Palyama 21-14, 21-10 after 29 minutes, and third-seed women’s doubles pair Selena Piek and Iris Tabeling struggled for 52 minutes to beat fellow countrywomen Samantha Barning-Eefje Muskens 19-21, 21-16, 22-20

In the women’s singles final, Kristina Gavnholt of the Czech Republic fended off host shuttler Judith Meulendijks 14-21, 21-13, 21-17 in 49 minutes.

Denmark managed to seize one title through its senior shuttler Kamila Rytter Juhl, who was paired with Mads Pieler Kolding in the mixed doubles, after upsetting Marcus Ellis-Gabrielle White of England 21-15, 21-13 in a 31-minute game.

In the meantime, Indonesia’s women’s singles shuttler Maria Febe Kusumastuti will face tough challenges at the Denmark Open Super Series Premier badminton tournament, which will run from Tuesday until Sunday in Odense.

Febe, now ranked No. 52 in the world, will have to deal with some of the world’s top players right from the beginning of the $400,000 tournament, starting with world No. 17 Gu Juan of Singapore in the first round.

Febe won only once and lost twice in their previous meetings. Febe beat Gu Juan at the 2012 All England second round 21-19, 21-19, but was defeated at the 2011 India Open Grand Prix Gold (19-21, 21-19, 15-21) and the Yonex India Open (11-21, 11-21).

If Febe wins in the first round, she will play either current world champion Wang Yihan of China or Thai Salakjit Ponsana, now world No. 54.

“Whoever wins in the match [between Wang and Ponsana] will definitely be a tough contender for Febe. Wang Yihan already knows everything, while Salakjit Ponsana is a tenacious player,” PB Djarum badminton training camp assistant manager Hastomo Arbi said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
