erkah Gamulya of Simponi (Earth Dweller Music Syndicate), the second-place winner of an international anticorruption music competition who is now in Brazil to perform at the International anticorruption conference, acknowledges that it’s been an outstanding experience to perform in Brazil.
“We’ve faced an enthusiastic crowd, heard great topics and listened to speakers from around the globe. It’s been very exciting,” Gamulya told The Jakarta Post via text message on Saturday.
He says the band is still preparing for the show. They are now rehearsing with the other winners from Egypt and Congo. He adds that the bands have been planning to create a song together.
Simponi and two bands will perform during the conference, where dozens of antigraft activists from around the globe have gathered to discuss new strategies to fight corruption.
Simponi comprises young activists who pledged to bring social issues to the public sphere through their songs and performances. Lead vocalist Rendi Ahmad, who found popularity after starring in Riri Reza’s film Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamer), acknowledged that joining the band has been great because it has helped him improve both his musical skills and critical thinking.
