Six shop-houses caught fire in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, while four homes burned down in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Wednesday.
No casualties were reported from either incidents, which were allegedly caused by short circuits.
Central Jakarta Fire Agency chief Madani said that with the assistance of West and East Jakarta firefighters, the agency had extinguished the blaze that started around 9 a.m. by deploying 47 fire engines to Sawah Besar.
He added that three out of six shop-houses had been severely burned out. “All fire spots have been extinguished, we are cooling down the areas now,” he told kompas.com.
Madani said most of the things inside the shop-houses were scorched.
Meanwhile, 18 fire engines from the West Jakarta Fire Agency also succeeded in extinguishing a fire that gutted four houses in Cengkareng.
“It took half an hour to put out the fire,” West Jakarta Fire Agency operational division chief Sutarno said.
Sutarno said the blaze broke out at around 11.30 a.m. and quickly engulfed four houses in the densely populated area.
He said although the fire had completely burned down the houses, no casualties were reported. (cor/iwa)
