Jakarta Marine Festival kicks off in Thousand Islands

The Jakarta Marine Festival 2012 officially opened on Untung Jawa Island in Thousand Islands municipality on Saturday.

The festival, organized by the Jakarta Tourism Agency, aims to boost tourism in the municipality, the agency's head, Ari Budiman, said as quoted by kompas.com.

The opening ceremony was attended by delegates from countries such as Cuba, Palestine, Libya, Poland, the US, Mexico, Venezuela and Yemen.

During the festival, visitors can participate in various events such as a jet-ski race, a seafood cooking competition and panjat pinang (greasy-pole climbing competition). (han/lfr)
