Orang Rimba starts using
contraception

The Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community, also known as Orang Rimba, in Sarolangun regency in Jambi has begun to use birth control products, an official said.

Sarolangun Family Planning and Women’ Empowerment Agency head Ramawi said on Wednesday that half of SAD people living in districts of Air Hitam, Limun and Batang Assai are taking part in the birth control program.

“Most of the SAD women prefer to use hormonal contraception administered by injection,” he said, as quoted by Antara news agency.

Ramawi said that the SAD people’s birth control awareness has increased over the past few years.

“They hardly accepted any new information at first but many of them have now joined the program voluntarily,” he said.

Ramawi said the agency would continue to campaign the programs intensively among the Anak Dalam people. (cor/lfr)
