Two police officers conducting a training flight were injured when they lost control of their American-made 480B Guardian helicopter and crashed at Pondok Cabe airbase in Tangerang on Friday.

Pamulang police chief Comr. Nasir said that pilot Insp. M Ibnu and copilot First Brig. Togu were about three meters off the ground and about to land when the helicopter suddenly fell into a nosedive.

“Ibnu was injured in his head, elbow and shoulder, while Togu only suffered from minor injuries,” he said.

Ibnu and Togu were rushed to Bhineka Bakti Usada hospital soon after the incident occurred at around 9:50 a.m.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that the two-seater helicopter was badly damaged.

The 480B Guardian is manufactured by the US-based Enstrom Helicopter Corporation. The helicopter is usually used for law enforcement and fitted with a front-mounted camera and searchlight. (lfr)
