President Susilo Bambang Yu-dhoyono said on Sunday that there was no contradiction between Islam and democracy and Indonesia was living proof that the two entities could go hand in hand.

“I reject the position that democracy can not live alongside Islam,” Yudhoyono said in his keynote speech in the fourth World Peace Forum (WPC) held at the Bogor Palace on Sunday.

Indonesia is not a democratic country. Indonesia will not become democratic as long as the authorities refuse to bring abusers of the people, corruptors and military war criminals and other violators of human rights before judges who are not themselves corrupt.
