he charismatic and iconic personas of Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot and Twiggy conjure up images of true beauty.

Their classic style is brought back to life by L’Oreal Professionnel’s (LP) Retro Nouveau hair trend and colors for its 2012 fall and 2013 winter collection.

“Taylor, Bardot and Twiggy’s styles are timeless inspirations. L’Oreal Professionnel has selected their inspirational styles for the upcoming autumn/winter season with a modern touch,” said LP group product manager for Indonesia, Yola Sutjiutomo.

Retro Nouveau is created by international hairdresser Odile Gilbert in collaboration with Jean-Jacques Doolaeghe, who was in charge of creating the new hair coloring technique, called Shadow illusion.

Shadow illusion creates a shadow effect at the root of the hair that gives a sense of glamor and a wonderful depth of color. With a darker color at the roots coupled with a brighter accent toward the middle and tips of hair, every individual can apply bright and dynamic colors without losing her refinement.

LP has produced three styles inspired by the iconic pin-ups. They are Vixen Violet, Siren Copper and Ingenue Blond.

Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor or Elizabeth “Liz” Taylor is an internationally known glamorous icon.

Vixen Violet, LP’s signature style, revisits Liz’s own classic style by applying violet coloring on wavy and volumized hair, truly representing her classic American look.

Siren Copper was inspired by Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot, the French icon famous for her sexy de-coiffed chignon hairstyle. For the upcoming fall/winter season, brings Bardot’s seminal hairstyle right up to the 21st century in a sensual copper color.

English model, actress and singer Lesley Lawson, famously known as Twiggy, was known for her tomboy style especially her iconic short hair.

LP adapts her asexual charm in Ingenue Blond with a boyish blond style that accentuates the Brit’s uniqueness.

“In this collection, L’Oreal Professional presents its appreciation for artists, artisans and muses. Film and fashion are dynamic industries that are full of life and their influences are often everlasting.

“In that spirit, Retro Nouveau can be identified as a universal language that bridges time and generations as well as fashion and beauty,” said Indra Tanudarma, education manager for L’Oreal Indonesia.

In LP’s first hair show at the 2013 Jakarta Fashion Week, the France-originated company also collaborated with several local hairdressers to showcase its Retro Nouveau style and colors on Indonesian women’s hair.

Lie Kuang and Irwan R. Doke applied the Siren Copper look onto their models, using the sophisticated copper color of Bardot on their models.

The shadow illusion technique made it possible to apply bright colors onto Indonesian hair — something that had been considered an unthinkable achievement in the local hair community.

Arie S. Hidayat and Bambang Harryono used Ingenue Bold as their inspiration, applying the shadow illusion trick to the roots and the brighter hue throughout the body and on the tips of the hair. The technique gave an overall depth to the hair and the gradation in color was reminiscent of Twiggy’s spirit.

Andy Lie used the Siren Copper shadow illusion color and brought it to a high end aesthetic level. Andy used the classy Taylor hairstyle, which is wavy with voluminous, and gave it a modern touch by putting light texture throughout the hair that gave it a natural looking color reflection.

 “It is a rare thing for most Indonesian women to have short cut hair. But this Twiggy-inspired style is perfect for those looking for a dynamic look,” said Andy.

The Siren Copper and Vixen Violet styles are more favorable for high fashion events or gala dinners, while Twiggy’s Ingenue Blond with some modification is suitable for casual events.
