Police guard Palu churches on New Year’s Eve
At least 219 police officers have been deployed to safeguard churches in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on New Year’s Eve.
Palu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Ahmad Ramadhan said Monday evening that the officers had been deployed to safeguard 78 churches in Palu as the churches would be holding services on New Year’s Eve.
The officers are among 1,200 security personnel — including military personnel — who have been deployed to safeguard areas plagued by traffic accidents, gridlock and crime.
He said he would not hesitate to prosecute criminals or terrorists who attempted to attack his personnel.
“Should they try to hurt my personnel, I will not hesitate to instruct the officers to shoot them,” he said. (swd)
