The Betawi People's Forum (Forkabi) helped clean up trash discarded by revellers at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle during New Year's Eve celebrations, the Jakarta Night Festival, on Monday.
The cleanup, called Forkabi care for trash movement, kicked off at 2 a.m. when hundreds of Forkabi members collected trash around the traffic circle, the center of New Year's Eve celebrations in the capital.
"This is our sincere effort to help overcome problems in the capital, especially the city's cleanliness," Forkabi head Murdhani said on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said it was also a show of support for the new Jakarta governor.
East Jakarta Forkabi head Zulkarnain said people who littered should be punished.
"Residents should be more disciplined and throw garbage into trash bins. The city administration also should improve sanitary facilities in the city," he said.(iwa)
