The police have named the son of Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa, Rasyid Rajasa, 22, a suspect in a fatal traffic accident that claims two lives and injured three others on the Jagorawi toll road south of Jakarta on Tuesday morning.
“Rasyid is a suspect because he hit the other car from behind,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told a press conference on Wednesday, according to tribunnews.com.
Rikwanto said the suspect was drowsy and exhausted when driving after celebrating New Year's Eve.
Rasyid will be charged under Law No. 22/2009 on reckless driving resulting in the death and injury of other people with a maximum penalty of six years’ imprisonment, according to Rikwanto.
He said the police had not detained Rasyid as he was being treated in a hospital for trauma and minor injuries.
Rasyid was driving a BMW that crashed into a Daihatsu Luxio at KM 3.5 on the Jagorawi toll road on Tuesday morning.
Two passengers in the Luxio, 57-year-old Harun and 14-month-old M Raihan, were killed in the crash while three other passengers, Nung, Rifan and Supriyati, sustained minor injuries. (cor/iwa)
