Jasa Marga to open five toll roads this year

P

ublicly listed toll road operator PT Jasa Marga expects to begin operations of five new toll roads in Jakarta, Central Java, East Java and Bali this year to further maintain its dominance in the country’s toll road operations.

“As we will open five new toll roads, we have to attain at least five new projects to maintain sustainability,” Jasa Marga president director Adityawarman said on Thursday.

The company is currently working on the development of nine toll roads. Among projects to be completed this year is a 10-kilometer Nusa Dua-Ngurah Rai-Benoa highway in Bali. The Bali toll road, which will be partly built above the sea, is expected to begin operations before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit commences this October. Construction of the Bali toll road has reached about 74 percent, according to Adityawarman.

The second toll road slated to begin operations is the Kebon Jeruk-Ciledug section, which is part of the 7.8-kilometer Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) W2 North connecting Kebon Jeruk and Ulujami in West Jakarta.

“Kebon Jeruk-Ciledug consists of three out of the four sections we are working on. We are still experiencing issues with land acquisition for the fourth section [Ciledug-Ulujami],” Adityawarman said.

The development of Kebon Jeruk-Ciledug has reached 60.5 percent.

Jasa Marga also said that the development of the 12-kilometer Ungaran-Bawean section, which is part of the Semarang-Solo toll road in Central Java, has reached 62.5 percent and is expected to
be completed this year. The company expects to complete the 13.6-kilometer Gempol-Pandaan toll road this year.

Adityawarman said that the fifth toll road expected to begin operating this year would be the Krian Mojokerto highway, which is the fourth section of the 34- kilometer Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road in East Java.

“We are still working on land acquisition. If we can finish land acquisition by March, we will be able to operate the section this year,” Adityawarman said.

Jasa Marga, along with its subsidiaries, is currently operating 545 kilometers of toll roads, or
about 73 percent of the total toll roads in the country, which are mostly located in Java Island.
Apart from the Bali toll road, Jasa Marga already has a toll road in Sumatra, a 34-kilometer Belawan-Medan-Tanjung Morawa (Belmera) road.

The company plans to take part in the tender for the construction of four toll road segments in Sumatra, which includes Medan-Kuala Namu-Tebing Tinggi, Medan-Binjai, Bakauheni-Bandar Lampung and Palembang-Indralaya.
