Long-haul budget carrier AirAsia X has announced that it is opening a new route connecting Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Flights will commence on Feb. 16.

The airline will service the route three times a week after the opening until April 30 and will increase frequency to four times a week starting from May 1.

AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani said the Kuala Lumpur-Jeddah route was its 14th long-haul route in its network.

“We are happy to be able provide budget flights for Muslims living in the Southeast Asian region who intend to go the pilgrimage to the Saudi Arabia,” Azran said on Friday in a statement.

He added that Saudi Arabians would have a new option to fly to the region and explore cultural sites in the Asia Pacific such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Australia.
