Issues of the day: 36 Ahmadis ‘convert’ to Sunni Islam

J

strong>Jan. 17, Online

Thirty-six Ahmadiyah followers “converted” to Sunni Islam during a ceremony conducted at Agung Grand Mosque in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on Thursday.

“We really appreciate the move from those former Ahmadiyah followers,” said Tasikmalaya Religious Affairs Ministry office head Dadang Romansyah.

Dadang said that the ministry expected more Ahmadiyah followers to convert by pronouncing the syahadat (creed) as a sign that they acknowledge the true teachings of Islam.

Your comments:

I hope they convert based on their personal interests and not because they feel threatened by a certain
Islamic group.

This is a positive development. The Ahmadi/Qadiani should engage the Muslim community and learn more about Islam.

After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe fell into the hands of corrupt leaders.

Corrupt and power hungry people who ruled without mercy, and with the use of torture. They also “converted” many people.

Please Google “inquisition” or “Spanish Inquisition” for more details.

The similarities between Europe back then and Indonesia now are both striking and chilling.

Indonesia, please wake up and stand up against tyranny and injustice. May peace be with you.

These people will need financial support because if someone leaves Ahmadiyah, they are usually bullied by the community.

May Allah guide the remaining Ahmadis to Islam. They should follow Prophet Muhammad.

Being an Ahmadi, I recite syahadat all the time because I believe in Prophet Muhammad and all of his claims.

I know for a fact that I have to answer to Allah and not to any Mullah. I do not need a certificate from a Mullah to be a Muslim. All Ahmadis recite the same syahadat that Mullahs are trying to snatch away from Ahmadis. The report is false and based on local reports.

Do you think they have options after the incident in 2011 in Cikeusik, Banten?

What’s the secret here? What Arab, Pakistani or Indian Mullahs could not do for decades, Indonesian Mullahs can do in months, how strange!

This story is misleading. Reciting the syahadat is the core feature of an Ahmadi Muslim’s belief. Reciting it, therefore, would only reaffirm their status and not amount to a recantation.

Furthermore, the people living in this particular area have been heavily persecuted for some time now and so if publicly reciting the syahadat, which they do several times each day, offers them a break from persecution, then so be it.

A similar story was published a couple of years ago and found to be untrue.

None of the other local Ahmadiyah members can confirm this thus far.

But stating that pronouncing syahadat is their way of “converting” to Islam is really misleading. Ahmadiyah followers (Ahmadis) recite it a minimum of nine times a day. So according to Prophet Muhammad, anyone who recites syahadat is a Muslim, therefore Ahmadis never left Islam in the first place.

Are they being given the option to convert to any other religion, or do they just want to be free from
religion?
