To protect students from the dangers of drugs, Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh said on Wednesday that anti-drug education was going to become part of the national education curriculum in 2013.
“To protect school students from drug misuse, we will have extracurricular activities on anti-drug education in our school curriculum in 2013,” said Nuh after he opened an educational competencies workshop for teachers from Muhammadiyah schools in Yogyakarta at Sportorium at Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMY).
He said the anti-drug curriculum would hopefully protect school students from the harm of drug abuse. “It is an anticipatory move to keep our students from taking drugs,” said Nuh. To implement the initiative, the Education and Culture Ministry would cooperate with related institutions, particularly the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), that were responsible for handling drug-related crime, he said.
“The BNN already has a system and it has conducted anti-drug investigations so we will cooperate with the agency,” said Nuh. (ebf)
