Education Agency head Tabrani said that the administration had allocated Rp 390 billion (US$40 million) this year for education, a large amount of which would cover school operational expenses.
“We have three priority programs which have been passed by the legislative council,” Tabrani said on Wednesday.
Besides free tuition from the beginning of academic year, from this month elementary school student’s worksheets will be distributed free by the school. The other program is tuition fee subsidies for students of poor family who go to private schools. “We will provide each student as much as Rp 150,000 per month,” he said, adding that there were over 9,000 poor students currently studying at private schools across the municipality.
