Only local fruit to be
served at the House

The leadership of the House of Representatives has issued a directive that requires the secretariat general of the legislative body to serve only local fruit for refreshment during sessions.

“Starting today, all events that concern refreshments will no longer serve imported fruit but local fruit, produced by our farmers,” House Speaker Marzuki Alie said on Thursday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Marzuki said that with the move, the House expected that it could improve the livelihoods of local fruit producers who had suffered from intense competition with fruit importers.

He said the country was rich with different varieties of delicious and colorful fruit that could not grow abroad.

“Our fruit can easily compete with imports,” he said.
