Jakarta Police nab drug
dealers, one dies escaping

The Jakarta Police uncovered on Friday a network of drug dealers and arrested three people, one of them a foreign national. A fourth suspect died after resisting arrest.

Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said that based on a tip-off, the police arrested a suspect identified as RCO at his residence in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, and seized 100 ecstasy pills from him.

“The suspect’s statement led us to the arrest of SUN, an Indian national, in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on the same day,” he said.

Rikwanto said SUN tried to escape but surrendered after police fired warning shots. The police confiscated 25 ecstasy pills from him.

In a follow-up investigation, the police arrested STNO and MHN in Matraman, Central Jakarta. MHN fled on a motorcycle while dumping a package of crystal methamphetamine on the road.

After warning shots went unheeded, the police shot him in the leg. The suspect fell off his bike, struck his head on the road and fell into the Ciliwung River. The police said the suspect died of a brain hemorrhage.
