No progress on national
environmental quality:

Environment Minister Balthasar Kambuaya said on Monday that the national environment quality index has remained unchanged for the last several years.

“People have the right to a good quality environment as well as clean and fresh water and air. Clean and healthy environment are part of human rights,” he said,” Balthasar at the opening ceremony of a environment management center meeting for the Sulawesi-Maluku eco-region (Rakoreg), in Ambon, Maluku, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The index was measures how well the nation’s environment management institutions work together. The higher the index position, the better the working performance of the institutions.

Officials from environment management and regional development planning agencies from 101 regencies and municipalities are participating in the meeting. (ebf)
