he Greater Indonesian Movement (Gerindra) Party has registered singer and actor Irwansyah as its legislative candidate to represent the electoral district of Banten III in the 2014 legislative election.
Gerindra executive Fadli Zon said that Irwansyah would first join a selection process before being nominated for the position.
Fadli also said that Irwansyah had a good track record. “He was not involved in the recent drug case,” Fadli said as quoted by tribunnews.com, referring to the drug bust involving television personality Raffi Ahmad and Jakarta councillor Wanda Hamidah.
If elected, Irwansyah would follow the path of another actor, Rachel Maryam, who was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 2009.
Early last year, Irwansyah ran as an independent candidate in the municipal election in Tangerang.
