Tunisia appoints new ambassador
to RI

The Tunisian government has named a senior diplomat as its new ambassador to Indonesia, says a diplomat.

“Tunisian ambassador-designate Mourad Belhassen arrived in Jakarta on Jan. 31. He will soon submit his credentials to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,” Tunisian Embassy’s charge d’affaires /deputy chief of mission Abdeljalil Ben Rabeh told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Belhassen, Rabeh said, is a career diplomat who speaks Arabic, English and French. He joined the Tunisian Foreign Service in 1991 after undergoing diplomatic training from 1989 to 1991 at the National School of Administration (ENA).

During his more-than-two-decade distinguished diplomatic career, Belhassen has served in various positions in Tunisia as well as abroad, including in Ankara (1992-1998) and Washington ((2003-2008).

According to Rabeh,  Belhassen was the acting director for the US division at the Tunisian Foreign Ministry prior to coming to Jakarta.(dic)
