Text your say: Aceng’s dismissal

Your comments on the dismissal of Aceng Fikri from his position as Garut regent after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono signed his dismissal document following a report on his four-day controversial marriage:

A president should not be doing such things. A minister should be sufficient for issuing the dismissal document in this case.

I feel so good that he has finally left office.

It’s a lesson to every government employee that their position cannot be used as license to do whatever they want.

Please underline that the main issue is — not his nikah siri (unregistered marriage) but his way of
divorcing his wife.

This can happen everywhere and therefore we should be more careful in selecting officials.

Rahayu Marlina

Aceng was an example of a leader who had no shame in not immediately stepping down after his actions.

A leader should be a symbol of morality. Leaders should be clean from all kinds of disgraceful actions.

I think it would have been honorable for Aceng to resign voluntarily rather than wait for his dismissal by the President.

Aceng’s departure says “good riddance” to ugly and undesirable elements in our government institution. He was/is a very bad example for our youth. The fact that polygamy is common in his village doesn’t mean that he (as a more educated person) can practice it.

Let Aceng’s departure be a lesson to all other government officials to not treat their wives as they please by getting new and younger wives for purely selfish motives.

Young marriages usually involve poor and uneducated people, so the Education and Culture Ministry has a lot of homework to do.

Of course, in the best interests of the Indonesian people, a wannabe regent, for instance, has to be a professional and possess the required education, capability, integrity and honesty. They have to have the courage to fight corruption, be primarily and completely dedicated to the people and must work hard.

Those who voice the desire to occupy lofty positions as public servants while harboring intent to fill their own pockets in office, are clearly not fit to occupy these positions and will bring only hardship and grief to the people under their rule.

By the way, I know of someone who aspires to be a regent in the Bogor area who has four wives already. Is this person allowed to run, or is he prohibited from competing for the position of regent?

Can anyone answer this question?
