T

he Serang District Court is set to announce the verdict in former Cilegon mayor TB Aat Syafaat’s budget misappropriation trial on Thursday.

Aat has been accused of embezzling Rp 49 billion (US$5.05 million) allocated for the Kubangsari Port construction project.

“Despite his ailing condition, my client is ready for the verdict,” Aat’s defense attorney ,TB Sukatma, said on Wednesday.

When asked about what the next step would be if the panel decided to grant the prosecutors’ demand for six years’ imprisonment, Sukatma declined to answer. The prosecutors had also demanded that the defendant return Rp 7.5 billion and be fined Rp 400 million.
