T

he police arrested on Friday former crime lord Hercules Rozario Marshal and dozens of his friends near Belmont Residence apartment in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.

Police from the West Jakarta precinct and Jakarta Police mobile detectives arrived at the scene at about 6 p.m. and arrested Hercules with 39 others, kompas.com reported.

West Jakarta Police detectives chief Adj. Comr. Hengki Haryadi was seen arguing with Hercules, while other officers got in a fight with the men.
The police had yet to make public the reason behind the arrest.

West Jakarta is notorious for many disputed plots of land in which those who laid claim to the lands or were involved in disputes usually paid members of mass organizations or thugs to guard the plots. Hercules and his men have often been involved in gangland brawls in West Jakarta but the cases have not been brought to court.
