Tontowi/Liliyana were a game down before sealing the next two games in a 18-21, 21-15, 21-19 victory, in a match streamed live online at www.tournamentsoftware.com.
The mixed doubles title will certainly be back in Indonesia if Muhammad Rijal/Debby Susanto overcome their Chinese opponents, fifth seeds Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei in a later match.
Indonesia’s only other hopes rest on the men’s doubles with Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan taking on Liu Xiaolong/Qiu Zihan later on Saturday.
Indonesia’s title hunt in the men’s singles event crashed after Tommy Sugiarto lost his quarterfinal match on Friday against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand. Tommy, who finished in second place at the German Open last week, was defeated 21-17, 21-11 to become the latest player to exit the tournament following Taufik Hidayat, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and Sony Dwi Kuncoro.
