he Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) ethics panel has lamented the failure of journalists to meet its summons to testify in the leak of documents pertaining to the graft investigations surrounding former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum.

A member of the ethics panel Abdullah Hehamahua said that journalists had failed to contribute to the fight against graft with their absence.

“To me, failing to respond to [a summons] is a sign that they did not want to help the corruption eradication campaign,” Abdullah, a former KPK commissioner, said on Monday.

According to Abdullah, the journalists, who should have appeared for a questioning session last week, have obstructed the investigation conducted by the ethics panel. The panel have no authority to force their hands.

“The ethics panel can’t have other measures, [we] hoped there would be a light at the end of the tunnel,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

The ethics panel had previously questioned several individuals regarding the leak, including KPK commissioners Busyro Muqqodas, Zulkarnain and Adnan Pandupraja, as well as a screen journalist.

The panel has yet to scheduled questioning of KPK chairman Abraham Samad and deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto.
