he Jakarta Police have refused to grant suspension of detention to Hercules Rozario Marshal, who was named a suspect in an assault case.
“It is the investigators own consideration [not to grant the suspension of detention] to make the investigation easier,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told reporters on Tuesday at the police’s headquarters, adding that the police had yet to complete their dossier on Hercules.
Hercules and 49 of his associates were named suspects on March 9 for their alleged involvement in a fight with police in Kebon Jeruk Indah, West Jakarta, the day before.
The fight broke out when the suspects allegedly attempted to provoke a fight with police personnel dispatched to guard the area after reports that Hercules and his men were actively engaged in extortion there.
Hercules and his men have been reported by three companies for extorting money from them.
“They said Hercules had told them the money was for security. One of the three companies was approached by the former crime lord himself,” West Jakarta Police detectives chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Hengky Haryadi earlier said as quoted by kompas.com.
