Constitutional Court justice Akil Mochtar said on Friday
that the House of Representatives had agreed to extend his tenure, which ends
in August.
Members of House Commission III
overseeing law and human rights approved the extension by acclamation, he told
the press at his office. “I am waiting for my current tenure to expire on Aug.
16, as it is impossible to issue a new presidential decree on my appointment
before my term ends.
"Akil was reelected without having to
undergo screening like other justice candidates. Akil, who was selected as a
justice in 2008, previously served as a Golkar Party lawmaker for two terms.
