A

former Garut regent who was impeached for polygamy is reportedly running as a legislative candidate for the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura).

Chairman of the party’s West Java chapter Fitrun Fitriansyah said that Aceng Fikri, the disgraced former regent, had taken an application form to apply as a Hanura legislative candidate. “We were told by our members at the Garut chapter,” he said.

Hanura executive Saleh Husin said that the party was open to everyone, including Aceng. “I don’t know his purpose of joining Hanura. I will check,” he said.

Aceng made head-lines last year after a teenager alleged that the regent had divorced her via text message only days after they wed. Aceng was reportedly still married to Nurrohimah, with whom he had three children, when he took the teenager as his wife.
