Garuda to use Bombardier
aircraft at Pekanbaru

To expand its business in Pekanbaru, Riau, national flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk will use the most technologically advanced Bombardier type aircraft, the CRJ 1000 NextGen.

“Garuda will use the Canadian-manufactured Bombardier type aircraft to serve its short routes, such as Pekanbaru-Padang, Pekanbaru-Medan, and Pekanbaru-Batam,” said Garuda Indonesia Pekanbaru branch office general manager, Suyatno Rifat, in Pekanbaru, on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

As reported previously, Garuda will reopen the Pekanbaru-Padang route with flights between the two cities daily starting from April 15. Two new routes, namely Pekanbaru-Medan and Pekanbaru-Batam, will operate every day starting May 1.

In October 2012, Garuda received five Bombardier CRJ1000 that currently serve several cities across eastern Indonesia.

“For western part of Indonesia, Medan has been appointed as a collector terminal and currently, six of the seven Bombardier CRJ 1000 [...] are at the terminal,” said Suyatno.

Garuda and Aerospace, the Bombardier aircraft manufacturing company, signed a purchase agreement for 18 of Bombardier CRJ 1000 NextGen on the sidelines of the Singapore air show on Feb. 15. (ebf)
