Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said on Wednesday that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had spoken directly to Finance Minister Agus Martowardo shortly after he was elected as Bank Indonesia (BI) governor on Tuesday evening.
“The President asked Agus Martowardojo to properly carry out his new duties as the BI governor,” said Julian as quoted by Antara news agency.
Agus would remain at his post until he was officially inaugurated as BI governor. The President has yet to decide on who would replace Agus as Finance Minister.
Presidential advisor for economy, Firmansyah, said in a previous statement that current BI Governor Darmin Nasution would complete his term in May.
Agus was selected as BI governor through a voting process following a fit-and-proper test, which took place in Commission XI overseeing banking at the House of Representatives. (ebf)
