ndonesia’s Davis Cup team lost its first two matches against India in the first round of playoffs of Group II Asia/Oceania in Bangalore, India, on Friday.

Wisnu Adi Nugroho failed to deliver, with Somdev Devvarman easily taking all sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and half, according to Antara.

The team’s hopes to equalize were shattered after Christopher Rungkat fell to his opponent who ranked below him. The Indonesian, who is ranked 250 in the ATP rankings, went down 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 against No. 279 Yuki Bhambri.

Saturday featured a doubles match before the teams participate in two singles matches on Sunday.

Other players on the Indonesian team, coached by Hendri Susilo Pramono, include Elbert Sie and David Agung.

In another playoff match, China beat Chinese Taipei 3-0.

After losing to Japan 5-0 in February, another loss would consign the Indonesian team to the second round playoff match against Chinese Taipei. The loser of that match would be relegated to Group II.
