olice have named the driver of a Nissan Juke a suspect following a crash involving his car and a Daihatsu Xenia in which five people were killed on the Km 135 section of the Purwakarta-Padalarang-Cileunyi highway on April 7.
Bandung Traffic Police chief Adj. Comr. Lukman Syarif said that Muhammad Dwigusta Cahya, 18, had been charged with violating Article 310 of the Traffic Law, which carries a six-year jail sentence.
“The suspect’s negligence caused the death of other people. He was driving too fast, well beyond the speed limit,” Lukman said on Tuesday. Police also requested assistance from a Nissan dealership to examine Dwigusta’s car. Based on that examination, it was determined that the car did not have any faults before the accident took place.
Dwigusta, who is a student at the Telkom Institute of Technology, is reportedly the son of Agus Adriyanto, general manager of state-owned airport management company PT Angkasa Pura I, which runs Adi Sucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta.
The Nissan Juke was traveling from the west of Bandung to Cileunyi, when it suddenly swerved and collided with the Daihatsu Xenia, which was travelling in the oncoming lane. Five of the six passengers in the Daihatsu died at the scene.
