inance Minister Agus Martowardojo once again responded to a summons by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday as a witness in the Hambalang sports complex graft case.

Speaking after questioning, Agus refused to confirm whether he had been summoned to give details on his decision to extend the deadline of the budget revision for the Hambalang project, as proposed by the youth and sports minister.

“The [information] about the deadline extension is known by the KPK. Let them explain everything during the process,” Agus told reporters at the KPK’s headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Agus, however, maintained his innocence in the graft case, saying that former youth and sports minister Andi Mallarangeng was the one responsible for the budgeting process.

“The Youth and Sports Ministry is responsible for ensuring that funds are processed according to procedures, while the Finance Ministry only verifies [the data] and makes sure that the budget funding is available,” he said.

Agus also urged the KPK to investigate the fact that the Hambalang budget proposal was only signed by then secretary to the youth and sports minister, Wafid Muharram.

Andi claimed that Wafid had signed the proposal without his consent.

“How come a secretary could sign on behalf of a minister, while the minister himself says he didn’t know anything about it?” Agus said.
