Indonesian windsurfers brought home two silver medals from the Asian Sailing Championships that were held from April 4 to April 9 in Myanmar.
Mahardika Sabara and Rikha Riawan, both of South Sulawesi, got the silver medals in the RS One Youth event.
"We also sent sailors but none of them got any medals. I think both of the windsurfers deserve to represent Indonesia at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar," national coach Fadly Faizal, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday.
Fadly acknowledged that he was not entirely satisfied with the achievements as they failed to take the gold medals. The athletes need to prepare better for the SEA Games.
He was optimistic that Indonesia could win some medals at the biennial event, that takes place in December, because Thailand's windsurfer gold medalists could no longer join in the competition as they had passed the age limit.
"We will have a better opportunity, but they still need to be better prepared," Fadly said, adding that all the athletes would undergo an intensified training regime in Makassar, South Sulawesi, in early May.
