W

hile Bali remains in pole position as the most popular tourist destination in Indonesia, East Nusa Tenggara has ranked second place in a recent poll by a social travel site burufly.com.

The poll received 1.5 million unique clicks, showing that 21 percent of respondents wanted to visit Bali and 17 percent East Nusa Tenggara. The remaining 62 percent spread over 10 places including Raja Ampat in West Papua, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and West Java.

The founder of Burufly, Peter Goldsworthy, said that East Nusa Tenggara secured second place because there were a lot of pictures of the province depicting the beautiful sea. Sea scenes were the website’s top image category recording 25 percent of total likes, followed by landmarks and city views.

Burufly is a social travel site providing a space for avid travelers to share their pictures and review visited places, established last September. The site currently receives investment from Ardent Capital, Silicon Valley-based Walden International and Batavia Incubator to develop its business and content.

“We target to have 10 million members of our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts in the long run and plan to develop a Burufly application for iOS users by June,” Peter added.

The site currently has around 400,000 registered members and nearly three million engagements worldwide.
