ncumbent candidate pair, Nurdin Abdullah-Muhammad Yasin, with 83 percent of the vote, looks to have won the Bantaeng mayoral election for the period of 2013-2018 that was held on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the candidate pair nominated by the Democratic Party, Sabirin Yahya-Fajar Yanwar, is ahead in the Sinjai election with 32 percent of the vote.
Given the results it is unlikely that the mayoral elections in either regency will go to a second round.
Herman Heizer, the executive director of Celebes Research Centre, which carried out quick counts in the regencies, said surveys conducted in 100 out of 361 polling stations in Bantaeng had declared the incumbents Nurdin-Muhammad as the winners.
In Sinjai, surveys conducted in 150 polling stations showed that Sabirin-Fajar had won more than 32 percent of the vote, followed by candidate pair Andi Seto Gadhista Asapa-Andi Muhtar Mappatoba with 28 percent.
'The results of quick counts we have conducted have only a 1 percent margin of error. The results of quick counts we conducted in several previous local elections were no different from the results of the real counts,' said Heizer.
The vote recapitulations and the declaration of the winners in the two regencies will take place from April 22 to 24. (ebf)
