resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono made journalists to wait until 9 p.m. onWednesday to listen to a statement about why Zannuba 'Yenny' Arrifah Chafsoh, the daughterof late president Abdurrahman 'GusDur' Wahid, called off her plan to join the Democratic Party.
'Yenny and I indeed had some talks on various issues including the possibility of fighting together in a same political party. But I never offered her a position at the Democratic Party and she never asked me for one,' Yudhoyono told the press at the State Palace, an hour later than the previously scheduled 8 p.m.
The media, expecting the President to talk about the increase in subsidized fuel prices, was surprised to hear the president talk about party matters again.
Yenny, currently chairwoman of the New Indonesian National Sovereignty Party (PKBIB), announced on Tuesday that she would not join the Dems on the advice of nine senior clerics from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the country's largest Islamic organization. (dic)
