T

he Jakarta Transportation Agency has decided to shorten thehours of an on-street parking ban on Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Hayam Wuruk in Central Jakarta.

Starting next week, the ban will last from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Agency head Udar Pristono said the times had been adjusted after it was realized that the ban had affected commerce in the area.

'We expect the revision will support economy activities in the area while managing traffic,' he said on Friday.

The revision was made official through the issuance of Gubernatorial Decree No.536/2013 dated April 11. The on-street ban was initially introduced in 2011 by the agency in response to public complaints over traffic congestion in the area. Initially the ban was for 24 hours a day.(dic)
