he Australian beach volleyball team won gold and silver medals at the just concluded Asia Pacific beach volleyball championship at Jakabaring Sport City, Palembang.
The gold came in the men's category, in which Sam Boehm/Cole Durant overcame Dian Putra S/Andy Ardiansyah of Indonesia in the finals. During Sunday's match, the Australian pair eased past their opponents 21-13, 21-15.
Despite the failure to win gold, the Indonesian pair looked relieved, saying that the result had surpassed their expectations.
'We just played together in this tournament,' Andy said.
Mariafe Artacho/Jessyka Ngauamo had to be content with the silver for Australia in the women's category after losing to Varapatsorn Radarong/Tanarattha Udomchavee of Thailand 21-18, 18-21, 15-11.
The event, which ran from April 19 to 22, featured 27 pairs from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Iran, Thailand and Indonesia.
