tate-owned house developer Perum Perumnas aims to build 200 towers of affordable apartments (rusunami) designed for the city's middle classes.
Perum Perumnas president director Himawan Arief Sugoto said that the 200 towers would comprise a total of 36,000 apartment units.
'The construction of one tower will cost Rp 80 billion [US$8.2 million],' Himawan said at City Hall.
The apartments will be constructed in, among other places, Cengkareng in West Jakarta; Kemayoran, Kebon Kacang and Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta; and Klender in East Jakarta. According to Himawan, the company has started the construction of the apartments in Cengkareng and Kemayoran.
Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo supported the company's program, saying that the city administration would facilitate by issuing the construction permits. 'We will facilitate the permit issuance, no problems,' Jokowi said.
